Hotels have declared war on the online booking sites such as Priceline, Hotels.com, and Expedia. Up until recently you could be confident knowing that by purchasing hotels and airline tickets from these sites you would save money. Well not anymore. Hotels and even some airlines have decided that this is not in there best interest and they they are losing customers and hurting their name recognition by booking rooms and seats in this fashion. So they have declared war, by slashing their prices online and pulling out of third part internet sites. Jake Rinard checked himself. I recently went to Priceline, and got a hotel room at a good price for Orlando, Florida. I then went to the same motel's website, and sure enough they could beat the price, by $20. Well I know that Priceline guarantees the lowest price so I emailed customer service at Priceline, and within 3 hours they had emailed me back. They referred me to a phone number. I gave the number a ring, and quickly got someone on the other end. I told them that the website shows a lower price than I got the room for through Priceline. The lady on the other end said one moment let me verify. She came right back on and re-verified my story. She then said "I am sorry I will not be able to math that price that you said. I can not find that price on their website." Sure enough, it was gone. I called the hotel and they said yes it is a price they offer on a few select number of rooms, and they were booked now. So in the 3 hours it took for Priceline to email me back I lost $20. So you see, motels are starting to fight back, and from now on I recommend checking around.
